Rant #1-an opus

While i love living in Kona, the Big Island of Hawaii, i must take a few moments to vent about a major frustration many of us on the west side have-the traffic. What is up people? Why is it that every time i creep by a construction crew, there are five guys standing around staring into some hole? Meanwhile, traffic is backed up for miles, cones and signs are arrayed in the most confusing, back-assward manner, and the project, when miraculously completed, is totally screwed up and needs redoing? I cannot understand or abide by this. It seems like all the property taxes for this island come from the west side, and yet we have the most congested roads. Who is hiring the crews? Why does it take so long to complete a project, and why can't anyone figure out a safe, fluid way to post signage and cones to keep traffic moving? It seems that Hawaii is just shooting itself in the foot in this area (and many others), because what tourist wants to spend half of his vacation stuck in traffic, looking at a bunch of highway workers standing around, thumbs in asses? Something needs to be done about the lame construction companies working on our roads, for one thing. Another would be to expand the service of the Hele-on to reduce the number of cars on the road, as well as encourage van and car pools. This is a ridiculous problem that can be fixed with some forethought and ingenuity. i hope that someday we can get things rolling smoothly on the roads of West Hawaii.
Ok, so this is my first stab at blogging and i'm just doing it so i can understand it more to incorporate it into a high school English lesson plan i need to work on, in case anyone ends up reading this and wonders why the hell i'm even bothering.
